Little
Miss Crimson & Cream
Jacqueline
S. Rhodes Chair
The
Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Inc. is elated to have sponsored the " Little Miss Crimson
& Cream" Pageant since 1992. This pageant has been one
our major fund raising events. Founding documents indicate that
those who created and organized this project were interested in
enhancing the cultural, social and educational experiences in the
lives of young girls, ages 5 through 12 years old. In addition,
through this endeavor, we have been able to generate proceeds that
allow the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter to provide college
scholarships to deserving African American students in Prince William
County, Manassas and Manassas Park.
The components of this remarkable undertaking have featured an array
of educational and fun activities for the pageant participants.
Included in these activities are educational field trips throughout
the Washington Metropolitan Area, and throughout Prince William
County. Additionally, our contestants were feted to a Mother-Daughter
Brunch and an etiquette workshop with the focus areas being "good
manners and stage presentation."
Our sorority's commitment to public service is communicated to the
contestants by involving them in a community service project.
Delta
Academy back
to top
Celeste Sharper and Vonetta Long Co-Chairs
The
purpose of the Delta Academy is to save our young females from the
perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures.
The Academy is designed to meet the needs of girls ages 11 - 14.
Further, the Academy augments the girls' scholarship in math, science,
and technology, expands their opportunities to provide service,
and reinforces their sisterhood defined as the cultivation and maintenance
of relationships.
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a current, major initiative
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., which mentors girls -- preparing
them for womanhood in the 21st century -- in three areas.
· Science and technology
· Service learning
· Sisterhood principles.
The program is named in honor of distinguished Delta member, the
late Dr. Betty Shabazz, who was a mentor to many young women. The
Academy was created by the Program Planning and Development Committee
under the leadership of Delta's National President, Marcia L. Fudge,
Esq.
The
Foundation awards several Scholarships each year for graduating
high school students who will attend institutions of higher learning.
These students have attained superior scholastic achievement, but
lack the financial resources to continue their education.

This
event was established twelve years ago. It was recognized by the
Prince William County School Board and in 2001, was the recipient
of the Human Rights Award, given by the Human Rights Commission.
The Oratorical Contest encourages the development of public speaking
skills of youths in grades 6 through 12 via a structured competition
through the area's public school systems. All participants receive
savings bonds. The winners of the preliminary competition present
their orations on te day of the event.
Spotlight
on Youth back to top
Lisa Williams and Patricia Willis - Chair
Spotlight
on Youth is an annual awards ceremony, which recognizes high
school students and their outstanding achievements in scholarship,
leadership, athletics and community service. With the help of school
Administrators, Guidance Counselors, Teachers and Coaches, Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority is able to identify deserving students and
present
them to the community during the month of May.
During the ceremony, presentations are also made to our scholarship finalists.
Spotlight on Youth has proven to be a success and a much anticipated event because it extends beyond academic accomplishments and focuses on personal talents and contributions.
